You Simply Cannot Do Without Magnetic Switches If You Really Want To Be Secure

Magnetic contact switches are used in doors and windows which work when magnetic fields are cut by the opening of doors. The magnetic alarm switches come in 3 types such as roller contact,
recessed contact and surface mounted types.
Features of Magnetic Contact Switch
These are used in conjunction with the doors or windows with the moving parts fixed with magnets and sensors or switches being installed on the fixed frames. Thus the principle of working is circuit breaking when door or windows open and setting off the alarm.

A door contact switch of this kind can be fitted on either recess of doors and windows or surfaces. Recess fixed electric contact switches go in to the door jams or window tracks. But for surface types may need to be repainted to match the décor.
How Does Magnetic Contact Switches Work?
The magnetic alarm switches are connected in a loop which is always closed (always in contact). They consist of electric contact switches and magnets. When doors or windows are closed, the switches sensitive to magnets close the circuit and when they open breaks the contact thus cutting the circuit. This sets off the alarm.
Types of Magnetic Switches
Basically all magnetic switches fall into 2 categories. Solenoid coil switches and relay switches. Although the principle of operation is pretty similar, both of them differ in their construction
Classification of Magnetic Switches
Basically there are three types of magnetic contact switches used in security set ups.
Recessed contact switches
These are installed into the door jams or window tracks with electric contact switch being on the fixed part and magnet on the movable part. Magnet and the switch meet when the door is closed and we say the circuit is closed now. It is easy fitting them during the construction phase it self rather than later.
Surface Mounted Switches
These are visible even when doors are closed as they are surface mounted. However, the principle of operation is same as that of the recessed contact switches. There are 3 options in sizes as large, small and micro but just 2-3 in color. You may want to paint them to match the décor of doors.
Overhead Mounted Magnetic switches
This is also called as roller-ball contact magnetic alarm switch and is mounted on door hinge side of the jam. When door is closed, the ball is pressed making contact with the switch thus closing the circuit. This type has a short life (2-3 years) as all moving parts are known to have.
