Types of Locks
With so much history behind, locks have evolutionized into different
types, each one adjusting to different type of consumers:
Standard Lock
This is the typical lock. Basically, it is a key that secures a lock
in a window or door with one or several turns. There isn’t much
complication in this system, except the quality of the manufacturing
and the materials that have been used. They are very cheap and can
be found in almost any specialized retail store. Not recommended for
securing your house.
Sash Lock
Practical for double hung windows, they are made for sealing out the
elements. They could be used for a second or third floor, but not
for securing a home from an intruder.
Dead-Bolt Lock
The advantage of a deadbolt lock over a standard lock is that they
are separated from the locking mechanism. The deadbolt is activated
using a key or a knob. When they are turned, the security door handle
locks the door by inserting the bolt into the door jamb. They are
considered high security locks.
Sliding Glass Lock
They are useful for aluminum windows that slide. Commonly, the locks
for these windows are quite bad. A good sliding glass lock can provide
you enough security by inserting the bolt into the track, making the
window secure.
Pin-Styled Lock
Pin styled locks are somewhat similar to home security locks deadbolts.
They insert a pin into the frame or track for securing a window. Although
useful, these home security locks inconvenience is that after some
time, they don’t secure windows as safe as they initially did.
