Can You Improve Your Home Security with Locks?

Home security locks should be considered the first step to be taken when implementing a security plan for your house.
Not only because they are the most ancient type of security or because of its relatively cheapness. They should be taken in account because, along time, they have proven to be an effective mean to protect you and your valuables. Door and window security locks need to be part of any secure household.
What Is Exactly A Lock?
It is a mechanical device that restricts the access to a determined area. If someone wishes to enter it, it will require a key or combination number for going in. In the past, several options were taken for securing valuables, like hiding or guarding, but time has proven that one of the best way’s to guard something is to block mechanically it’s access to intruders.

As our technology has improved, home locks security has acquired different levels of sophistication, reaching unimaginable levels. Today we see them everywhere around every home
Types of Locks
With so much history behind, locks have evolutionized into different types, each one adjusting to different type of consumers:
Standard Lock
This is the typical lock. Basically, it is a key that secures a lock in a window or door with one or several turns. There isn’t much complication in this system, except the quality of the manufacturing and the materials that have been used. They are very cheap and can be found in almost any specialized retail store. Not recommended for securing your house.
Sash Lock
Practical for double hung windows, they are made for sealing out the elements. They could be used for a second or third floor, but not for securing a home from an intruder.
Dead-Bolt Lock
The advantage of a deadbolt lock over a standard lock is that they are separated from the locking mechanism. The deadbolt is activated using a key or a knob. When they are turned, the security door handle locks the door by inserting the bolt into the door jamb. They are considered high security locks.
Sliding Glass Lock
They are useful for aluminum windows that slide. Commonly, the locks for these windows are quite bad. A good sliding glass lock can provide you enough security by inserting the bolt into the track, making the window secure.
Pin-Styled Lock
Pin styled locks are somewhat similar to home security locks deadbolts. They insert a pin into the frame or track for securing a window. Although useful, these home security locks inconvenience is that after some time, they don’t secure windows as safe as they initially did.
